Why Gemini privacy settings need a checklist

Gemini can process prompts, files, images, audio, video, screen shares and information from connected services. The exact data depends on how you use the app and which permissions or integrations you enable. A person who only types general questions on the web exposes a different set of information from someone who connects email, calendar, messages, device tools or live camera sharing.

What can Gemini Apps collect?

Mobile features may use permissions for contacts, call or message functions, installed apps or screen context when you enable them.

This does not mean every data type is collected in every session. It means the service can process those categories when the feature, permission and account configuration call for them. Gemini Apps Activity: Keep Activity on

When Keep Activity is on, chats and shared content can be saved in Gemini Apps Activity. What happens when Keep Activity is off?

With Keep Activity off, future chats do not appear in Gemini Apps Activity and, unless you submit feedback, Google says they are not used to train its AI models. Google still retains chats for a limited period—currently described as 72 hours—to respond, protect the service and handle system failures. Turning the setting off therefore reduces saved activity but is not the same as zero processing or instant deletion.

Some Connected Apps and personalised features may be unavailable when Keep Activity is off. Other Google settings, such as Web & App Activity or Location History, are separate and can continue saving data generated through other Google services. Review them independently.

How to review or change Gemini Apps Activity

1. Sign in to the Google Account you use with Gemini.
