Annuity Quote: Compare Income and Benefit Options

Published:

Short answer: Compare an annuity quote by the income promised, the lives covered, what happens after death, the payment mode and the conditions for accessing capital. The largest first instalment is not enough to identify the most suitable option. Obtain a dated quote for the exact product version and read it alongside the policy terms before making a decision.

A blank calendar, linked wooden rings, a navy contract folder and quotation sheets, illustrating income timing and survivor-benefit comparisons.

This guide helps Indian readers organise an immediate-annuity comparison. LIC’s public Jeevan Akshay-VII documents provide a concrete example of how one product offers different benefit structures. They are used only for that product’s terms, not as a market ranking or a recommendation to buy it. No private quote, payment, proposal or pension transaction was tested.

Start an annuity quote comparison with the exact contract

Record the insurer, product name, UIN or version, quote date, purchase amount and the assumptions used. A brochure example and a personalised quote are different documents. A figure copied from a friend’s policy may involve another age, option, payment mode or product version, so it is not a reliable rate for your own decision.

The official LIC Jeevan Akshay-VII product page identifies UIN 512N337V07 and links its sales brochure, policy document and customer information sheet. Check that the quote and supporting documents concern the same version. A familiar product name alone does not establish that every document found online governs the proposed policy.

Keep the quote’s expiry or validity condition visible if one is specified. Ask the insurer what must remain unchanged for the quoted amount to apply. Do not invent a universal validity period or assume an old illustration can be accepted indefinitely. A dated written clarification is more useful than an undated verbal assurance.

Separate the purchase amount from any additional amount charged or deducted. Ask the provider to explain the amount used to calculate the annuity and the total amount payable. This guide supplies no tax rate or after-tax income estimate. Personal tax treatment and any special pension-source conditions require separate current checks.

Compare the income schedule before comparing the headline amount

Write down how much is payable, how often it is payable and when the first payment falls due. A yearly quote and a monthly quote should not be treated as identical merely by dividing one figure by twelve. Obtain the actual quote for the intended mode and compare the contractual payment dates.

The LIC customer information sheet makes the annuity amount, mode and first-payment date separate schedule fields. That is a useful reading model: an income amount is incomplete without its timing. Check whether your comparison sheet actually captures all three rather than recording only a large figure from the quotation.

Ask whether the payment stays level or follows a stated increase rule. If an increase is promised, identify its calculation basis and timing instead of assuming it tracks your household’s costs. A contractual increase and protection against every future expense are different propositions. Do not describe either as a real-world outcome beyond what the contract supports.

Compare the income schedule with the purpose you are trying to fund. A household relying on monthly cash flow needs to understand when money arrives, even if it also compares annual totals. This is a planning question, not a reason for the article to choose a payment mode for every reader.

Map who receives payments while each person is alive

Identify the annuitant or annuitants by their role in the quote. In a joint-life proposal, record whose death triggers a change and what the surviving person’s payment would be. Do not assume that naming a nominee creates joint-life income or that every joint-life option pays the same survivor amount.

LIC’s current linked sales brochure distinguishes single-life and joint-life options, including different survivor-payment structures. It also states that an annuity option once chosen cannot be altered. For this product, comparing the option is therefore a material decision before purchase, not a setting to leave unresolved for later.

Make a simple event map: both people alive; primary annuitant dies first; secondary annuitant dies first; and last survivor dies. Ask the insurer to identify the payment or benefit under each event for the actual quoted option. If the quote does not cover two lives, do not fill the extra boxes as though it does.

The map is especially useful when two quotes have similar starting payments. They may promise different support to a survivor. Compare those promises explicitly rather than treating the lower starting amount as automatically worse or the higher one as automatically better. Suitability depends on the person’s actual needs and other resources.

Separate a guaranteed payment period from return of purchase price

Check what the selected option promises after death and who is entitled to receive it. A continuing payment for a specified guaranteed period, a survivor’s annuity and a return-of-purchase-price benefit are different mechanisms. The word guaranteed should always be attached to the specific benefit or condition it describes.

The LIC policy document illustrates the distinction. Its life-only option ends payments on the annuitant’s death without a death payout, while its guaranteed-period options address death during that period. Other options provide return of purchase price on the specified death event. Read the selected option rather than assuming every annuity returns capital to a nominee.

Ask how the death benefit is to be paid where the contract provides one. A lump sum, instalments and purchase of another annuity can produce different practical outcomes. Identify the choice actually recorded and the applicable conditions; do not assume that a recipient can freely change every earlier election.

Keep the quotation’s option description with the relevant benefit clause. A shortened adviser note such as “family protected” is too vague to establish who receives what and when. If the wording cannot be mapped to the contract, ask for clarification before treating it as a promised benefit.

Check capital access separately from income and death benefits

A return-of-purchase-price clause linked to death does not itself establish a right to withdraw that amount at will while alive. Locate the separate surrender, loan and cancellation provisions, if applicable. Ask what happens to future income and other benefits if any such facility is used.

For the LIC version reviewed, the policy document restricts surrender to options F and J and applies conditions. It also contains dated calculation assumptions. Those historic calculation rates are not reproduced here as a current quote. Obtain the insurer’s applicable written terms and valuation rather than treating the original purchase amount as an immediately available cash balance.

Our life-insurance surrender-value guide explains the separate task of checking an exit quotation. This article concentrates on comparing a proposed annuity’s benefit structure. A decision to buy, retain, surrender or borrow needs its own assessment and should not be inferred from reading a comparison.

If the purchase is connected with NPS or another regulated pension arrangement, ask what additional restrictions or procedural conditions apply. A product’s ordinary terms may not be the whole answer for the source of the funds. This guide does not determine NPS exit eligibility, a required annuitisation amount or a permitted transaction.

Build a comparison sheet that exposes different promises

Field Record for each actual quote
Identity Insurer, product, UIN, quote date and validity condition
Inputs Annuitant details, purchase basis and selected option
Income Amount, mode, first-payment date and any increase rule
Survivor event Who receives what after each relevant death
Capital benefit Whether, when and to whom purchase price is returned
Access conditions Actual surrender, loan or cancellation clauses
Unresolved points Questions requiring a written insurer response

Hold the inputs constant where a like-for-like comparison is intended. If a quote changes age assumptions, payment mode or option, label that change. A useful comparison shows why the promises differ instead of ranking figures whose underlying conditions are different.

Compare guarantees with the contract, and keep illustrations labelled as illustrations. Our term-versus-endowment guide explains a different product comparison based on benefit events. Its useful organisational principle is to identify the promise being purchased; its product-specific benefits are not annuity terms.

Ask the provider to resolve missing fields before treating the sheet as decision-ready. Keep the official response with the quote and record which assumption it clarifies. Do not let a handwritten promise replace an inconsistent policy clause without an appropriate written resolution.

An exercise using option descriptions rather than invented rates

Take two official option descriptions, one life-only and one including a specified capital benefit. Without inserting hypothetical returns, list the payment during life, the event ending income and any amount payable after death. Then identify what additional quote information is needed to compare their actual income.

The exercise shows why a higher initial payment does not alone settle a comparison. The contracts can trade different benefit promises. It does not show which option is suitable for a real household, how long someone will live or what their total lifetime receipts will be.

Dates and limits of this guide

This evergreen guide was verified on 1 November 2026. It announces no new annuity rate, tax concession or filing deadline. The reviewed product documents include time-specific examples and factors; obtain a fresh quote before acting. No deadline-tracker entry, proposal submission, payment or purchase was made.

Frequently asked questions

Is the largest first instalment always the best quote?

No. Compare timing, covered lives, death benefits and capital-access conditions. A figure without its contractual conditions cannot establish suitability.

Does return of purchase price mean money is available on demand?

No such conclusion follows from that phrase alone. Check the event triggering the benefit and the separate surrender and loan provisions.

Can another person’s rate determine my income?

No. Obtain a quote using the actual product version, inputs and option. Do not treat a brochure illustration as a personalised offer.

Final annuity quote checklist

Identify the contract, compare the payment schedule, map survivor benefits and check capital conditions. Resolve missing terms before making a decision. A careful annuity quote comparison makes different promises visible without forecasting a return or authorising a purchase.
