Purpose
CheckMatter India publishes clear, practical reporting about money and consumer issues, government and public services, and AI and digital tools. We aim to explain what changed, who is affected, when it takes effect, and what readers can do next.
Primary-source standards
We use primary sources first and link readers to the original record wherever possible.
- Money, markets and insurance: Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
- Tax and GST: Income Tax Department, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), GST Council, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), and Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN).
- Government and public services: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Press Information Bureau (PIB), official ministry and department portals, gazette notifications, circulars, and public records.
- AI and digital tools: official announcements, documentation, release notes, and support pages from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and the company responsible for the product.
Reputable secondary sources may provide context or identify a lead, but they do not replace an available primary record. Anonymous social posts, screenshots without provenance, and unsourced claims are not sufficient evidence.
Editorial workflow
- Define the claim or change. The editor records the exact question, affected readers, jurisdiction, and likely effective date before research begins.
- Collect primary evidence. The researcher finds the original notification, circular, order, filing, official help page, release note, or company announcement and records its URL, issuer, publication date, and access date.
- Interpret and draft. The writer explains what changed, who is affected, what does not change, applicable deadlines, and practical next steps. Official-source links are included in the draft.
- Human verification. A human checks every important name, figure, date, eligibility rule, quotation, deadline, link, and example against the cited source. Ambiguous language is described as uncertain rather than guessed.
- Editorial approval. A human editor reviews the headline, summary, evidence, context, disclosures, and reader action before publication. No article is published automatically by an AI tool.
- Post-publication review. We monitor material updates to the primary sources, update the article when necessary, show an updated date, and record substantive corrections under our Corrections Policy.
Pre-publication checklist
- The article has one clear headline and an accurate one-sentence summary.
- The “Verified from” source is primary, current, correctly attributed, and linked.
- Names, dates, amounts, eligibility conditions, effective dates, and deadlines match the source.
- The article explains who is affected, what readers should do, and what does not change.
- Examples are clearly labelled and do not overstate the official rule.
- The author byline, publication date, updated date, featured image rights, category, tags, canonical URL, and disclosures are correct.
- A human has completed the final review and approved publication.
Accuracy and context
Headlines and summaries must reflect the article and must not exaggerate certainty or urgency. Opinion, analysis, sponsored material, and affiliate content must be clearly distinguished from independent reporting. Important deadlines must be checked against an official source before publication.
AI-assisted work
AI tools may assist with organizing research, comparing source documents, outlining, transcription, or language cleanup. A human must verify the sources, interpret their effect, check every material fact, and approve the final article.
We do not scrape a competitor article, rewrite it with AI, and automatically publish it. We do not present AI-generated claims, citations, quotations, images, or examples as verified without human checking.
Editorial independence
Advertisers, affiliate partners, and commercial relationships do not control our conclusions or routine editorial decisions. Any material relationship relevant to a recommendation must be disclosed clearly.
Bylines, dates, and corrections
Published articles identify the responsible author and publication date. Material updates show an updated date where appropriate. Confirmed errors are handled under our Corrections Policy, and substantive changes are recorded in the article’s correction history.
